Sporting Exeter

Exeter has a proud sporting history, with the main activities being football, rugby and horse racing. Number Twelve is perfectly situated for all of these events.

EXETER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB

Exeter City Football Club has been a member of the Football League from 1920 to 2003 and, following five seasons in the Conference National, from the 2008–09 season onwards. They achieved automatic promotion to League One for the 2009–10 season at the first attempt.Exeter City Football Club

Exeter City was founded in 1904 and began playing on an old field used for fattening pigs, St James Park (not to be confused with the homes of Newcastle United or Brackley Town). Exeter remain at St James Park to this day. The club is nicknamed "The Grecians" and St James Park is just a 5 minute level walk from our hotel.

The club was formed in around 1871 and played its first match in 1873. The first team has been rebranded as the Exeter Chiefs and play in a strip of Black (Home), White (Away).Exeter Chiefs Rugby

The Chiefs currently play in the top-tier of English rugby, the Aviva Premiership, having been promoted on 26 May 2010, when they beat Bristol Rugby. Exeter Racecourse is a thoroughbred horse racing venue located just outside of Exeter. Locally it is known as Haldon racecourse because of its location on top of the Haldon Hills. Until the early 1990s it was officially known as Devon and Exeter.Exeter Races

The flagship race is the Grade 2 Haldon Gold Cup which takes place each Autumn. This race has been won by past greats such as Best Mate, Viking Flagship and Edredon Bleu.
